Here, hydrogen can replace fossil fuels, including industrial process heat. In the process, biogenic CO\u2082 is used and captured from existing CO\u2082 sources. For instance, the excess heat produced at our e-methanol facility in Kass\u00f8, Denmark will be connected directly to the local supply grid. This grants the potential of generating heat for 3,300 households in the Aabenraa area. The collaboration and optimal co-existence with the local community provides the opportunity to reduce the municipality\u2019s overall carbon emissions and improve its infrastructure, thereby benefiting the surrounding society and general industry.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nFor example, our Kass\u00f8 plant is connected directly to the largest solar park in the Nordics and runs partly on locally produced green electricity. Great precautions are taken for the welfare of animals, conditions of the groundwater, noise levels, pollution, and the preservation of nature and environment without our facility impacting it.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nIn Kass\u00f8, the carbon needed for producing e-methanol is captured from Danish biogas plants, which displaces CO\u2082 that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere. Now, we are launching the solution to scale up green methanol production, making it price competitive and attractive as an alternative fuel for e.g. the shipping industry. The green hydrogen can then be used directly as an energy source or as a base for further processing, for instance by combining it with carbon to form a variety of e-fuels and chemicals.<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"c-accordion__item\">\n                    <h3 class=\"c-accordion__headline\" id=\"how-can-the-local-community-benefit-from-a-power-to-x-facility\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\">How can the local community benefit from a Power-to-X facility?<span class=\"c-accordion__arrow\"><\/span><\/h3>\n                    <div class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n                        <p>There are many ways in which a Power-to-X facility can be an asset in its surrounding community. It can enter into the network of existing utility companies and engage in sector coupling for e.g., water-, heating-, and cooling supply. We also seek to employ as locally as possible, creating up to 40 jobs in both the construction and operation of the site. Additionally, the activity of a Power-to-X facility can bring further investments and funding to projects in the community and can be an important factor in branding the municipality as leading within the green transition, with Aabenraa Municipality being a prime <a href=\"https:\/\/investinaabenraa.dk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">example<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In connection with planning, construction, and operation, we seek to utilise any possible synergy and optimal coexistence in a well-thought-out energy cycle for the benefit of both the local community and the business community.<\/p>\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"c-accordion__item\">\n                    <h3 class=\"c-accordion__headline\" id=\"what-is-e-smr\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-expanded=\"false\">What is e-SMR?<span class=\"c-accordion__arrow\"><\/span><\/h3>\n                    <div class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n                        <p>e-SMR stands for electrified Steam Methane Reforming. It\u2019s a new way to produce green methanol \u2014 a clean fuel and chemical \u2014 using renewable electricity and biogas instead of fossil gas.\u00a0Today, most methanol is made from fossil fuels, which creates a lot of CO\u2082 emissions. With e-SMR, European Energy can produce methanol with very low \u2014 and sometimes even negative \u2014 emissions.
